Burlington County is New Jersey’s largest county by area, stretching from the river towns through the suburbs to the Pine Barrens. It is a straight run west from our Toms River office, and we hold NJ Division of Fire Safety permit P01507. We have been in business since 2016. For Burlington County, call the New Jersey number, (732) 443-0608.

Mount Laurel’s Route 73 corridor

Mount Laurel sits where Route 73, Route 38, Interstate 295, and the New Jersey Turnpike meet, and the area around Centerton Road is full of shopping centers, chain and independent restaurants, hotels, and office parks. A single shopping center can hold a supermarket with a prepared-food counter, several restaurants, and a row of service tenants, each responsible for its own extinguishers and exit lights. Hotels with breakfast kitchens and banquet space add suppression systems to the list. A tenant list and a rough count of units before the visit lets us cover a whole center efficiently.

Medford Village and Burlington City

Medford’s Main Street, in the historic village, is a short walkable strip of shops, cafes, and a few restaurants in older buildings. Small kitchens there often have one hood over a modest line, but that hood still needs its twice-yearly suppression inspection, and a Class K extinguisher belongs near any fryer. Burlington City’s High Street, near the river, has restaurants, pubs, and small shops in a historic district where many buildings are long and narrow, with dining in front and the kitchen at the back. In buildings like that, exit signs and emergency lights along the path out are worth checking every year.

We also work in Moorestown, Marlton and Evesham, Cinnaminson, Delran, Willingboro, Lumberton, Mount Holly, Bordentown, and Burlington Township. Our Camden County page covers the towns just to the west.

What a visit covers

Extinguishers that fail inspection can be recharged or refilled when that is all they need; otherwise we replace them.

Opening a new commercial kitchen? We also install and replace kitchen hood suppression systems for new commercial kitchens.

Codes the fire official will have in mind

Extinguishers are measured against NFPA 10, which asks for a monthly look by the owner and a yearly service by a qualified technician. Kitchen wet chemical systems fall under NFPA 17A and get inspected twice a year. Emergency lighting is tested under NFPA 101, section 7.9.3: 30 seconds each month and 90 minutes each year, logged in writing. Our guides to fire extinguisher inspection in NJ and emergency and exit light testing in NJ walk through each one.

Who inspects in Mount Laurel, Medford, and Burlington City

In Mount Laurel, the township code makes the Bureau of Fire Prevention of Mount Laurel Fire District No. 1 the local enforcing agency, under a fire official who reports to the Board of Fire Commissioners. Medford’s township code has the Uniform Fire Code enforced locally by the township’s Bureau of Fire Prevention. In the City of Burlington, the Division of Fire Prevention inspects commercial occupancies for compliance with the Uniform Fire Code. The Burlington County Fire Marshal’s fire code unit inspects county-owned and leased buildings rather than private businesses. Check with your municipality if you are not sure which office covers your address, and read fire extinguisher inspection in NJ for what the yearly visit involves.

What to have ready

  • The address and a rough count of your extinguishers, emergency lights, and exit signs.

  • Any notice or write-up from your fire official.
  • For a kitchen: the name on the suppression cabinet, if you know it, and the cooking equipment under the hood.
  • For a multi-tenant or multi-floor building: which suites and floors are included in the visit.
  • Someone on site who can open the kitchen, storage areas, and mechanical rooms.

Requesting a visit

Send the request form with your address, or phone Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm; the office is closed weekends. We schedule the trip, inspect, tag what passes, and recommend next steps, and you decide what to approve. Questions about a notice from your fire official are welcome before you book. Mobile food businesses should read food truck fire protection. Pennsylvania calls use (484) 214-1800. Return to Service Areas.
