We work out of our Toms River office at 1745 US 9, Unit 9, and our technicians come to you.

The older towns along the PATCO line, Haddonfield, Haddon Township, and Collingswood, have walkable downtowns packed with independent restaurants and shops. Atlantic Fire Protection covers them from the Toms River office and holds NJ Division of Fire Safety permit P01507. We have been in business since 2016. For Camden County, call the New Jersey number, (732) 443-0608.

Haddonfield and Kings Highway

Downtown Haddonfield is built along Kings Highway, with boutiques, cafes, bakeries, and restaurants in older storefronts that share walls and back alleys. Many of these buildings were not designed around a commercial kitchen, so the hood, the suppression cabinet, and the nearest Class K extinguisher are often fitted into tight space. A cafe that only runs an espresso machine and a panini press needs fewer things than a full-service restaurant with a fryer, but both need tagged extinguishers and exit lights that work.

Haddon Avenue in Collingswood and Westmont

Haddon Avenue is the spine of Collingswood’s downtown and is known for its run of BYOB restaurants, along with bakeries, takeout counters, and coffee shops. The same avenue carries on into Westmont, the business district of Haddon Township, where restaurants and bars sit beside offices and storefronts. A busy dinner service puts the cooking line under steady load, so the twice-yearly suppression inspection is worth keeping on the calendar rather than waiting for a reminder from the fire official. Dining rooms that fill up on weekend nights also depend on exit signs and emergency lights that come on when the power fails.

Elsewhere in the county we work in Audubon, Oaklyn, Haddon Heights, Barrington, Pennsauken, Voorhees, Gloucester Township, and the City of Camden. Our Cherry Hill page covers the Route 70 and Route 38 corridor next door.

What a visit covers

Extinguishers that fail inspection can be recharged or refilled when that is all they need; otherwise we replace them.

Opening a new commercial kitchen? We also install and replace kitchen hood suppression systems for new commercial kitchens.

Codes the fire official will have in mind

Extinguishers are measured against NFPA 10, which asks for a monthly look by the owner and a yearly service by a qualified technician. Kitchen wet chemical systems fall under NFPA 17A and get inspected twice a year. Emergency lighting is tested under NFPA 101, section 7.9.3: 30 seconds each month and 90 minutes each year, logged in writing. Our guides to fire extinguisher inspection in NJ and emergency and exit light testing in NJ walk through each one.

Who inspects in Haddonfield, Haddon Township, and Collingswood

Each of these towns runs its own Uniform Fire Code office. Haddonfield’s borough code names the borough’s fire official as head of its local enforcing agency. Haddon Township, which includes Westmont, has a Bureau of Fire Prevention that registers and inspects businesses in the township. In Collingswood, the Bureau of Fire Prevention of the borough fire department is the local enforcing agency. The Camden County Office of the Fire Marshal investigates fires and advises the county’s towns on fire code enforcement; it does not replace your town’s inspector. Our guide to fire extinguisher inspection in NJ explains what the yearly visit covers.

What to have ready

  • The address and a rough count of your extinguishers, emergency lights, and exit signs.
  • Your latest service tags or reports, if you have them.
  • Any notice or write-up from your fire official.
  • For a kitchen: the name on the suppression cabinet, if you know it, and the cooking equipment under the hood.
  • For a multi-tenant or multi-floor building: which suites and floors are included in the visit.
  • Someone on site who can open the kitchen, storage areas, and mechanical rooms.

Requesting a visit

Send the request form with your address, or phone Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm; the office is closed weekends. We schedule the trip, inspect, tag what passes, and recommend next steps, and you decide what to approve. Questions about a notice from your town’s fire prevention bureau are welcome before you book. Mobile food businesses should read food truck fire protection. Pennsylvania calls use (484) 214-1800. Return to Service Areas.
