  • Kitchens in Elmora and along Elizabeth Avenue
  • Extinguisher tags plus suppression and exit light tests

Union County packs city blocks, train-station downtowns, and suburban shopping streets into a small area. We cover it from Toms River, carry NJ Division of Fire Safety permit P01507, and have been doing this work since 2016. Union County customers can reach us on the New Jersey line, (732) 443-0608.

Westfield’s downtown

Westfield’s downtown fills the blocks around Elm Street, Quimby Street, and East Broad Street, where restaurants share the sidewalks with boutiques and offices. Plenty of these kitchens are tucked into narrow storefronts with the cook line along one wall, so the pull station and the manual gas shutoff need to stay clear of stacked supplies. A dining room that fills up on weekend nights should have its exit signs lit and its emergency lights tested well before the rush.

Cranford and Union Center

Cranford’s downtown runs along North and South Union Avenue near the train station, a walkable mix of cafes, pizzerias, and sit-down restaurants. In Union Township, Union Center grew up around Stuyvesant Avenue, where small eateries sit between banks, salons, and professional offices. A coffee shop that cooks only on countertop appliances may not need a suppression system at all, but it still needs the right extinguishers and working exit lights; a pizzeria or grill cooking under a hood needs its suppression system serviced on schedule as well.

Elizabeth: Elmora and Elizabeth Avenue

In Elizabeth, restaurants, bakeries, and takeout counters serving many cuisines stretch along Elizabeth Avenue and through the Elmora section. Kitchens that run long hours with fryers and griddles lean hard on their suppression systems, so nozzle caps, fusible links, and the agent cylinder deserve attention at every service, and a Class K extinguisher belongs near the fryers. Storefronts in older buildings often send their back exit through a hallway or basement, and those routes need lit signs and emergency lights too.

We also work in Linden, Rahway, Summit, Plainfield, Roselle, Roselle Park, Kenilworth, Springfield, Scotch Plains, Clark, Hillside, and Berkeley Heights. Warehouses and offices near Route 22 and the New Jersey Turnpike tend to need extinguishers and emergency lighting rather than kitchen suppression. Our Middlesex County page covers the neighboring county to the south.

What a visit covers

If an extinguisher only needs a recharge or refill, we handle that on site when we can; units that can’t go back into service get replaced.

Opening a new commercial kitchen? We also install and replace kitchen hood suppression systems for new commercial kitchens.

The standards behind an inspection

Your fire official will judge extinguishers against NFPA 10: staff check them monthly, and a qualified technician services them every year. Wet chemical kitchen systems are covered by NFPA 17A, with service every six months. NFPA 101, section 7.9.3, sets the emergency lighting tests: a 30-second check each month and a 90-minute run once a year, both kept in a written record. Who enforces the fire code in Union County towns

Each of the four larger towns handles its own fire code enforcement. Westfield’s town code makes the Westfield Fire Department, through its fire prevention bureau, the local enforcing agency for the Uniform Fire Code. Cranford’s code places enforcement with the Fire Prevention Division of the Cranford Fire Department, under the direct supervision of the township’s fire official. Elizabeth and Union Township each have a Fire Prevention Bureau that serves as the local enforcing agency for the state Uniform Fire Safety Code. In Westfield, Cranford, and Elizabeth, the local code also assigns the bureau the periodic inspections of life hazard uses that the Uniform Fire Code requires. If your business is in another Union County town, your municipality can tell you which office inspects it.

Before we arrive

  • Your street address, plus an estimate of how many extinguishers, exit signs, and emergency lights are on site.
  • Copies of past inspection tags or service reports, if they’re handy.
  • Anything in writing from the fire prevention bureau, such as an inspection report.
  • For kitchens: the brand shown on the suppression cabinet and a list of the appliances under the hood.
  • Access to every room we need: the kitchen, back storage, basement, and electrical or mechanical spaces.

Booking service

Use the request form with your address, or call between 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday; we are closed on weekends. Once a date is set, our technician inspects, tags the equipment that passes, and explains anything that needs attention, and no further work goes ahead without your approval. If a fire official’s report has you unsure what to fix, call before you book and we can talk it through. Running a food truck? See food truck fire protection. For Pennsylvania, call (484) 214-1800. Frequently asked questions

Do you work in every Union County town?

Yes. Our service area is all of New Jersey, so Elizabeth, Union, Westfield, Cranford, and the rest of Union County are covered. Call us to check your address.

Our cafe has no hood. Do we still need service?

Most likely, yes. Without a hood you may not need a suppression system, but your extinguishers still need a yearly inspection and your exit signs and emergency lights still need testing.

How often should a restaurant suppression system be serviced?

Every six months, under NFPA 17A. Ask your local fire prevention bureau whether it adds anything to that.

Can you help after a failed fire inspection?

Yes. Include the inspection report with your request, and we will build the visit around the items it lists.
